On-Campus Meeting Facilities

Appalachian State University offers the use of its main campus facilities during the summer months to internal and external clients who have education as their mission. Clients must be expecting a minimum of 25 people and represent a recognized organization. Public and private schools, religious organizations, Scouts, business and industry, professional associations and 4-H groups are some examples of potential clients. Conference and meeting planners who select Appalachian for their summer meeting will receive the services of a "one stop shop" Conference Office that will schedule a variety of modern auditoriums, classrooms, and seminar rooms to meet their programming needs. The facilities are well lighted, ventilated and are equipped with the latest in teaching aids. The facilities are both flexible and diverse and can accommodate small simultaneous seminars, large plenary sessions, coffee breaks and receptions.

Auditoriums

Farthing Auditorium (Seating Capacity 1,800)

I. G. Greer Auditorium (Seating Capacity 452)

I.G. Greer Auditorium is air conditioned and provides comfortable seating with a 54' X 24' hardwood stage, stage curtain, basic stage lights and is equipped with a 36' movie screen and movie projection equipment.

Rosen Concert Hall (Seating Capacity 450)

Rosen Concert Hall is air conditioned and provides comfortable seating with a 54' X 30' hardwood stage, basic lighting, sophisticated sound system to compliment a pipe organ and baby grand piano.

Valborg Theatre (Seating Capacity 350)

Valborg Theatre is air conditioned and provides comfortable theatre style seating for 350 people.

Lecture Halls and Classrooms

There are 16 Lecture Halls located throughout the campus ranging in size from 75 to 175 seats. Standard classrooms ranging in size from 30 to 60 seats are the norm on campus. The Lecture Halls and classrooms are equipped with a combination of standard student seating and modern teaching aids.

George M. Holmes Convocation Center(Capacity 9,000)

Comfortable climate contoled seating for 9,000. Portable stage with state of the art sound and light system. Main venu for trade shows and performances.

Varsity Gymnasium (Capacity 8,000)

In addition to serving as a multipurpose indoor sports facility, Varsity Gym can accommodate 7,000 people in bleacher seating and is equipped with a hydraulic stage that can be used for large plenary sessions and concerts. The facility has a 24,000 square foot main floor and 15,000 square feet of exhibit space on the second level balcony. Portable sound systems are used to accommodate the event.

Kidd Brewer Stadium (Capacity 18,000)

The University football stadium has a poly turf surface and has been used as the venue for outdoor summer concerts for 10,000 spectators.

Plemmons Student Union

The Plemmons Student Unions' central location on campus makes it a prime facility for accommodating meeting needs. The Union's meeting facilities include: Grandfather Mountain Ball Room (3900 sq. ft.) or (three 1,300 sq. ft. rooms); eight meeting/conference rooms ranging in size from 200 to 650 sq. ft.; three multipurpose rooms, Hawks Bill 3,680 sq. ft., Roan Mountain room 1406 sq. ft., and Wiseman's View 1,900 sq. ft.; a 7,000 sq. ft. Life Fitness Center; an Outdoor Plaza and 275 seat Amphitheater with covered stage; recreational facilities include, an eight lane bowling alley, ping pong room, game room-billiards, video games, and a rooftop sundeck (capacity 175). The Union also has two food service operations, The Gold Room Restaurant and Cascades Cafe Snack Bar seating 150. The newest edition to the Union is the Coffee House.

Broyhill Inn And Conference Center (Year Round)

Owned & operated by Appalachian State University, the Broyhill Inn has been an experiential learning facility teaching the fundamentals of quality customer service to our student employees. In the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, you will find our facility nestled in the woods at 3500 feet elevation. The Inn boasts a 25-mile mountainous view from the dining room and 83 newly refurbished guestrooms.

Sitting above the campus of Appalachian State University and the quaint mountain town of Boone, our guests can enjoy the numerous activities available to them. Off Campus Meeting Facilities

Camp Broadstone (Year Round)

Camp Broadstone is a 53-acre residential camp located near the small mountain community of Valle Crucis a short seven miles from the University main campus. Broadstone combines the beauty of the area with the resources of a regional university to provide quality year round camping and high adventure outdoor programs or is a great place for a retreat. The camp's four winterized cabins provide rustic but comfortable accommodations for 80 people and the spacious 4,600 sq. ft. main lodge serves as a dining room for the home cooked family style meals, meeting room, and provides an excellent venue for receptions in front of the large stone fireplace. The camp staff utilize the low elements of the Group Interaction Course or the more challenging high elements of the High Ropes Course and the Climbing Wall to offer leadership training, team building, and self awareness activities to assist groups with meeting their goals. Mountain trails, rock cliffs, caves, lakes and streams are also used as outdoor learning laboratories.
