You have all seen the popular TV show CSI, but have you ever wondered what really happens to the evidence collected from the real crime scene? Where does it go, how does it tell its story, and most importantly, how can it be used to solve the crime? With ASU's Forensic Science Camp, all of these questions will be answered. You will get the opportunity to investigate a suspicious arson, detect and classify fingerprints, identify unknown drugs, compare trace evidence using a microscope, and detect gunshot residue just like professional investigators. Here is your chance to become the scientist that actually analyzes the evidence and uses it to solve the crime.

Crime scenes contain evidence that can be used to reconstruct the events that occurred during the crime. This evidence must be carefully collected, documented, and preserved to be credible in a court of law. Much of the evidence left at a crime scene occurs in very small amounts, called trace evidence. This may include fibers, hair, paint chips, glass, soil, gun shot residues, residual accelerants, powders, fingerprints, etc. which must be collected for future analysis in the forensic laboratory. This camp is designed for students with an interest in the laboratory analysis of crime scene evidence.

Remember to bring bed linens, bath linens, notebook, pencil/pen, and spending money.

Participants will be staying on-campus with adult supervision.

Please note: Participants must have either their Science Teacher or Counselor email eldrethmr@appstate.edu a recommendation for them to attend this camp!!
